Following the spectacular performance of Victor Osimhen for Napoli in international friendly matches, his older brother, Andrew has revealed that the gangling striker had a transfer offer from Manchester United but turned it down due to his respect for Odion Ighalo.
Osimhen’s older sibling, Andrew while speaking to Complete Sports in a recent interview revealed that his younger brother declined joining United because of his respect for Ighalo.
“It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague,” Andrew Osimhen told Complete Sports.
“My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goal-scorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”
Osimhen has gone ahead to become Nigeria’s most expensive player ever, beating Alex Iwobi’s record following his €70m summer transfer from Lille to Napoli in the Italian Serie A.
The 21-year-old also scooped a major award after the Super Eagles attacker was voted as Lille’s best player of the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season which was ended due to COVID-19.
All these achievements led to many transfer offers coming for Osimhen from the likes of Man U, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea before Napoli finally landed his signature.
