Two serving members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) have been shot dead in Bayelsa. They were killed Wednesday night in Swali area of Yenagoa, the state capital, when a gang of suspected cultists invaded a Corps members’ residence along School Road, Swali, Yenagoa.
Several people were shot in the attack. One of the NYSC members, who were immediately taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC), Yenagoa after the shootings, was pronounced dead on arrival while the other died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Sources said the cultists had attacked a shop close to the residence and their target escaped and was traced the corpers lodge.
Asinim Butwat, State Police Command Spokesman, who confirmed the incident in a statement.
“On March 21, 2019 at about 2200 hours, armed robbers numbering about seven, attacked the residence of one Jerry Yeseme Moses, proprietor of a school, at Swali, Yenagoa.
“The armed robbers instantly shot and killed one Corps member, Oluwatobi Popoola; they also shot one George Onokpoma, and Anthony Gbenga Dada.
“The victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where George Onokpoma was confirmed dead, while Anthony Gbenga is responding to treatment. The command has launched a manhunt for the unknown gunmen, investigations is ongoing.”
He said the Command has paid a condolence visit to the State Coordinator NYSC, Bayelsa State, Mrs Lotto Bolade, to convey their condolence to the families to the families of the deceased and the entire NYSC family.
