At least three persons were confirmed dead and many others injured in a clash involving cultists Mushin area of Lagos. Buildings and vehicles, worth millions of Naira were also razed down during the clash involving members of the Aiye and Eiye cultists on Monday night.
Eyewitnesses said members of the Eiye cult stormed Akingbode and Olateju areas of Mushin, torching houses, vehicles and looting shops in retaliation of the shooting of one of their members in a bar at Ilupeju on Sunday.
A suspected Aiye cult member was alleged to have shot sporadically at the bar while drunk, killing an Eiye cultist and leaving three others injured.
Angered by the shooting, some members of the Eiye cult group traced the suspected shooter to his Mushin neighbourhood on Monday morning where they attacked anyone on sight until they were dispersed by police operatives.
Not satisfied, the hoodlums were said to have returned around 11 pm on Monday and torched about 60 vehicles, burnt houses and looted shops belonging to innocent traders.
Shooting sporadically, they caused a commotion that left many people fleeing from the chaos injured. The invading cultists were accused of preventing firemen from accessing the area that night in order to ensure they caused greater damages.
Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Area D Command and Olosan Division, Mushin had to intervene before the firefighters could gain access to the affected areas to combat the fire.
