A new series “Bel-Air” is officially in the works more than a year after Morgan Cooper created a viral trailer re imaging the Sitcom as a drama.
Will Smith and Morgan Copper will join force to adapt “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” into a dramatic take on the popular show that aired from 1990 to 1996.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series will focus on the origins of Will Smith’s character and his roots in west Philadelphia, It would also tackle issues of being a Black man in America today.
It all started in 2019, when Cooper breathed new air into the series after creating a Fan-film “Official trailer” for “Bel Air.
Copper is a cinematographer, according to Deadline Hollywood,and his video garnered attention from Will Smith. Cooper will direct and co-executive produce the series. He is also co writing with Chris Collins.
Netflix and HBO Max are two of the potential streaming partners that are bidding for the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
