The Super Eagles of Nigeria has qualified for the next knockout round of the FIFA World Cup African qualifier. The team played a 1-1draw with the Sharks of Cape Verde in the second leg of their final group match at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State on Tuesday to top Group C with 13 points and qualify for the knockout round.

The final round of the African qualifying series will hold in March 2022.

In the match, the Eagles started on a fine note when Victor Osimhen opened the scoring with a neat low finish after Moses Simon’s cross was poorly cleared out by the visiting team.

But the Cape Verdeans whose hope of going to the Mundial rested on a win, fought back immediately. Their efforts were rewarded five minutes later when Ianique dos Santos Tavares connect to a Kenny Rocha Santos corner to earn the equalizer.

The Eagles’ attempts to get the match-winner came to nothing as they couldn’t connect for a goal. Alex Iwobi and Joe Aribo on two occasions had chances but their efforts were saved by Cape Verde’s keeper.
