Ogun Declares State Of Emergency In Water Sector

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has declared a State of Emergency in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Governor Abiodun who made the declarations in Abeokuta when he received the report of a Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (WASH), also declared war against Open Defecation in the state.

He said the water and sanitation sector must be adequately attended to at the urban and sub-urban levels, adding that rural water supply and sanitation needs of the residents of the state would be prioritised in line with Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While describing potable water, good hygiene and sanitation is crucial to the health and economic wellbeing of the people, the governor pointed out that lack of these basic needs had led to the contraction of preventable diseases.

Governor Dapo Abiodun maintained that his administration would continue to invest through effective partnerships with development partners towards ensuring that potable water and sanitation get to the doorsteps of every household in the state.
