By Sunday Akintoye

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has called on Nigerians to continue to live in peace, while urging those beating the drums of war to desist as no one can predict the outcome of a war.

Dr. Hamzat, who made the call at the Special Jumat prayer in commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th independence celebration, urged Nigerians to embrace the friendly attitude exhibited during the COVID-19 lockdown when everyone supported one another to see the nation through a difficult period.

“Let us live together in peace. Let’s appreciate the goodness in us. I saw the goodness in people during the lockdown, people donated to the vulnerable and the poor. Nigerians are good people, let us harness that goodness in all of us and build a better country”, he said.

Speaking further, the Deputy Governor emphasised that there is cause to celebrate the 60th Independence Anniversary, saying that “It is worth celebrating as some countries that had long been together have disintegrated. “We are together and living in peace, and as long as we continue to live together, we will be fine”.

He added that it is the responsibility of all Nigerians to make the nation great, enjoining every citizen to continue to pray for the good of the country to overcome all its challenges.

Earlier in his sermon, the Imam of the Central Mosque, Imam Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Gafar, thanked Allah for the peace and unity being enjoyed by Nigeria, so far, in spite of her challenges and encouraged Muslim faithful to continue to remember Nigeria in daily prayers and eschew the spirit of division.
