As Nigerians are celebrating country’s 60th independence anniversary today, Chairman FC Robo Queens Football Club of Lagos, Emmanuel Osahon has expressed satisfaction that the women football in the country has tremendously improved in the last few years.
Osahon said this in a statement made available to our correspondent. While congratulating Nigerians on the nation’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the former stationery Stores goalie said Nigeria has recorded a lot of achievements in sports in the last 60 years.
He noted that the achievements of the female national teams on the continent are numerous and commended Nigeria Football Federation NFF for its support given to the women football to ensure that the country is competing favourably well at the world stage.
“Let me first and foremost congratulate us for 60th Independence Anniversary we are celebrating today. Despite our challenges, cultural diversity, religious and tribal differences, we thank God that we are still live in harmony and unity since 1960.
“On the issue of women football in the last sixty years, you would agree with me that we have achieved than men counterpart both in the continent and world at large.
“We have won several Africa Women Championship titles and we have reached quarter final stage once in the FIFA Women World Cup.In FIFA U-20 Women World Cup, we always make Africans proud in our past competitions. We should remind our readers that we have been in final of U-20 Women World Cup in 2010 and 2014 but lost to our opponents.
“Presently Nigeria is the only country in Africa where her players are playing in big clubs in Europe and Asia and that is why most of these western countries always find it difficult to beat Nigeria in FIFA organized football tournaments because our players are among the best in the world.
“On the CAF Women Award, Nigeria has won it more than any country in Africa so I think women football is fast growing in the country and I want to commend the leadership of Nigeria Women Football League NWFL in the person of Aisha Falode and her management team for doing a great job to ensure that women league in Nigeria has lived up to expectations, “said Osahon who reminded his players to maintain social distance and always use their face mask while celebrating country’s independence Anniversary.
Osahon however thanked Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, fans and friends for their support given to the club since inception and urged them to give them their support so that the club would b able to pick continental ticket at the end of the season.
He said FC Robo Queens would be formidable, strong and better in the coming season saying that the club is poised to compete for league title when the league resumes.
