The Chairman of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA colonel Mustapha Abdallah (Retired )has reaffirmed the commitment of the Agency in curtailing drug abuse in the country.
Mustapha Abdallah stated this during the Occasion of public Destruction of Exhibits by NDLEA Kano Command ,held at the commands headquarters in Kano.
He said the law has made it mandatory for the general public to be part of the exercise so that they would take the message home with aim of addressing the challenge.
Colonel mustapha Abdallah maintained the drugs destroyed weighted 28,167.629 tonnes of illicit and hard drugs,saying another 25tonnes of illicit drugs were in their custody awaiting forfeiture by court order before public Destruction.
The Chief Executive said like in most states of the federation ,cannabis sativa remains major problem, saying over eleven thousand kilograms have been confiscated .
He commended the efforts of Kano state government for making no pretext about drug problem in the state.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said Kano state has recorded great success in reducing the rate of drug abuse in the state.
He said the success achieved is a clear demonstration of synergy between all security agencies and stakeholders in the state,saying a bill has been submitted to the state house of assembly for the establishment of a state drug abuse controll agency.
Gov Ganduje said the state government had established a reformatory institute geared towards rehabilitating those who have fallen victims of drug addiction. The ceremony was attended by heads of security agencies in Kano, non governmental organizations, other stakeholders and the public
