Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Governor, has described the late Evangelist Bamidele Olomilua, the former Governor of the old Ondo State as a man who lived above board during his lifetime.
Governor Akeredolu made this known during the commendation service in honor of the late Governor on Tuesday at The Dome in Akure, the Ondo state Capital.
Akeredolu described late Olomilua as a complete gentleman, an astute politician, and a manager of both human and material resources, who lived all his life in the service of his people, the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole.
“He was a man who lived above board throughout his political career, whether as Governor or as a dedicated political party member as there was no record of corruption or disservice traceable to his name.
He was an unapologetic party man with welfarist political inclination. In the last years of his glorious life, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua served his beloved State as the Chancellor of Ekiti State University and he was also one of the founding fathers of Action Congress (AC) in 2006.” He said.
The Governor while sympathizing with the good people of Ondo and Ekiti States said “the entire country has lost a gem! We however draw consolation from the worthy life he lived.
Indeed, when the history of Yorubaland is being recounted, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua’s name will be written in gold. we are no doubt, comforted by his exemplary resolve to develop and maintain an intimate relationship with his Creator, God Almighty.
I can say, without an iota of doubt that this largely accounted for his acclaimed transparency, even in the murky waters of politics, in general, and governance, in particular.”
Meanwhile, Akeredolu advised the good people of Ondo state to reflect on the life and times of the Late Evangelist Bamidele Olomilua and remain steadfastly dedicated to the development and growth of our States while we still remain on this side of eternity and forge a very close relationship with The Creator.
Evangelist Bamidele Isola Olumilua served as Governor of old Ondo State between 2nd January, 1992 and 17th November, 1993 during the aborted Third Republic on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He served Ondo State meritoriously despite his short stay in office as a result of the 1993 military coup d’etat that brought in General Sani Abacha-led regime. It was during his tenure as Governor that the status of Ondo State as an Oil Producing State was restored.
This feat was as a result of his relentless pursuit of that dream. He was a development-oriented leader.
