As part of ways to cushion the pains caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and to alleviate poverty among people, the lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representative, Honourable Jide Jimoh has distributed empowerment materials, funds to aged people and youths in the constituency as part of economic assistant package.
Making the distribution at the 6th edition of the Jide Jimoh Economic Assistance Scheme held in Yaba Local Council Development Area, (LCDA) of Lagos recently, Mr Jimoh explained that the significance of the programme is to ameliorate the pains of the people especially at this trying time and as a fulfilment of some of the promises made to the electorates.
The lawmaker who highlighted some of his achievements said he had sponsored ten bills such as weight and measure bill- HB401, FCT Urban development bill- HB 707, Nigerian Tourism development authority amendment bill – HB 127, Passport Miscellaneous act amendment bill- HB 541 and many others.
He buttressed that since the last one year as a lawmaker, he had facilitated several projects in the constituent, ranging from the creation of a motorize borehole in Otumara, Ongoing construction of roads at Nubi Close, ongoing construction of blocks of classrooms at Iponri Primary School, ongoing Construction of Health Centre at Makoko to mention but few.
The lawmaker however assured the residents of the constituents to remain calm as more dividend of democracy would soon come.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Mainland Local Government Area, Mrs. Rashidat Omolola-Essien commended the lawmaker for the kind gesture shown to the people.
Mrs. Omolola Essien however enjoined people of contituency to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 prevention protocols as well as maintaining peace and harmony.
In a remark, the Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Dr. Kayode Omiyale congratulated the beneficiaries adding that skill acquisition and empowerment is one of the ways to eradicate poverty in the Country.
Omiyale however urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and see it as an opportunity to empower themselves as well as to support others.
Some of the beneficiaries who expressed their gratitude to the lawmaker said that the materials received will alleviate them from poverty and as well serve as an avenue to provide for their needs.
Some of the items distributed includes: Cash donations to one hundred aged people, and youths, deep freezers, grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dryers and steamers, auto mechanic box, auto spraying machine, and facial massagers.
