Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu Chapter wants Church leaders to appeal to their members, particularly youths, to stop the EndSARS protest.
This followed spates of violence, killing, looting, and destruction of individual and public property in the state.
The State Chairman, Bishop Emmanuel Edeh, in a statement said he was concern that the protest, which started peacefully, had taken a dangerous dimension in the past few days.
He said 2020 was a challenging year and admonished residents to avoid acts that would escalate the pains of fellow citizens.
Bishop Edeh expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for setting up a judicial panel of inquiry on police brutality and extrajudicial killings, as part of ways of addressing the demands of the protesting youths.
He condoled with people affected by the violence and implored Christians to embark on prayers for God’s intervention.
