Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that Nigerians were waiting eagerly for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take over power at the federal level in 2023 from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)

Atiku stated this when he met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state in Port Harcourt to reconcile their differences ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The two top PDP members have been reported to be at different camps of the party since Atiku got the  2015 presidential ticket of PDP against Wike’s preferred choice, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state.

Kelvin Ebiri, Wike’s Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement, quoted Atiku as saying he was on the visit for party (PDP) affairs, stating that his meeting with Wike in Government House, Port Harcourt was fruitful.

He specifically said he spent some time with Wike reconciling touching issues bothering on how to ensure unity and stability in PDP to enable the party to clinch electoral victory in 2023.

“Well, I came here to reconcile with the governor on party affairs and how we can ensure that there is unity and stability in the party.

“So, that we can take over government in 2023. I believe that Nigerians can’t wait for 2023 to come, so that PDP will return,” Atiku said.

Atiku described the prevailing insecurity in the country as bad saying the PDP at the appropriate time would unveil its policies on how it would address the issue.

“I have never seen it (insecurity) this bad. I am 70 years plus, I have never seen it this bad in terms of security challenges, in terms of economy, in terms of unemployment. This is the worst.

“Why can’t you give us time? We will come up with our policies. We will present them to Nigerians when the time comes.

“We have done that before. Under PDP, we recorded the highest economic growth, the best foreign reserves, we reduced unemployment. You know that we can do it,” he said.

Atiku, who described Wike as the topmost governor among his peers in the party, commended the governor for his leadership and performance in office.
