The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC), Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has, on Wednesday, lifted the suspension on the Council Leader, Hon. Remy Shittu Remy.
The council leader was suspended from the party on Friday, March 19, 2021 based on his disobedience to the party’s directive to immediately recall two councillors, Hon. Akeem Ayoola Adeyemi (Ilasamaja Ward) and Hon. Olanrewaju Kayode (Alagbeji Ward), whom he early suspended from House.
Although the crisis has since been resolved following the intervention of the State House of Assembly which summoned the legislative and executive arms of the council to its chamber and also paid a working visit to the council.
The state assembly overruled the suspension of the councillors as well as the presentation and passage of the 2021 appropriation bill that was done on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 by the council Chairman, Hon. Shamsudeen Olaleye.
Speaking to echonews after the closed door LGA excos meeting that was held in the party secretariat recently with some of the councillors, the party chairman, Barr. Gani Bello explained that the development came after Remy had shown remorse to the party leadership for his disobedience.
He, however, urged the Remy to sustain his consciousness to the supremacy of the party and remain guided by the party’s constitution.
“He has shown remorse and the remorse is acceptable to us. He has captured it in his letter written to us, and the suspension has been lifted. He is back as a member of the party. No qualms.
“As I said, one of the conditions is that he must show remorse. It got to a stage that we noticed and confirmed that he is remorseful. He should keep within the norms of the party. He must take the party serious. He must regard the party as supreme and we’ve told him to strengthen the relationship with his colleagues in the chamber and should not give room for any form of disintegration among one another any more. They must come together and work as one, not as members of different committee but as members of the same family.”
Asked whether Remy’s record of disobedience to the party’s leadership will have an adverse effect on his future aspiration especially his reelection, Bello said: “In what ways? There will be primaries. As of today, the part guidelines have not come out yet. So, that has cannot affect him.”
Reacting to this development, Remy expressed his gratitude to the party’s leadership, revealing that it will help him to sustain the level of his diligence and focus to discharge of his duties.
“I’m grateful to the party leadership for this development. This will help me to remain focus on the discharge of qualitative representation to my immediate constituents and Isolo residents as well as Lagosians, being the deputy chairman of Lagos State Councillors Forum.
“This development will also calm all nerves among my supporters as some were already saying that they will tear their party membership cards due to what they perceived to be delay in the lifting of my suspension because they were saying that they joined the party because of me and they see no reason why they should remain in the party if my suspension is not lifted.
“I’m grateful to the leaders and I will always hold the party in high esteem as always.” he said.
