Adamu Bans FSARS, Others From Routine Patrol

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has banned personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and othe tactical squad from routine patrol.

Other squads include the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Anti-Cultism Squad.

They are banned from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk operation at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels.

They are to no longer be involved in duties – like stop and search, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – with immediate effect, a statement by the IGP on Sunday said.

He said no personnel of the Force was authorized to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti.

Widespread reactions have trailed the shooting of a young man in front of a hotel in Ughelli, Delta by SARS operatives.

The shooting reignited the #EndSARs campaign, which has been on for a few years.
